To Encourage Seminary Specialized Witness and Outreach Training

RESOLUTION 6-02 Reports R13.1–2 (CW, 64–67); Overture 6-58 (CW, 399)

WHEREAS, God “desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4), and the Lord Jesus is the “light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to [His] people Israel” (Luke 2:32); and

WHEREAS, The seminaries of the Synod have faithfully served God’s Church, providing pastors who proclaim God’s Word and administer the Sacraments since 1839; and

WHEREAS, The seminaries have throughout their history provided training for men who served the church in specialized areas of outreach ministry such as church planting, foreign and domestic missions, etc.; and

WHEREAS, The seminaries are actively enhancing formation to embrace mission, witness, and outreach in response to the 2023 Res. 1 -01A, “To Stimulate Training for Witness” ( Proc., 115), which was adopted by unanimous voice vote;

therefore be it

Resolved, That we offer our thanks for the additional coursework and workshops in evangelism and outreach; and be it further

Resolved, That the Synod in convention request that the seminaries, in consultation with the Council of Presidents, identify specialized areas of seminary training that are needed today in the life of the church and its mission to the world, including the preparation of men for church planting.
