Personal Statement

I have served the church for 37 years as a parish pastor at Risen Christ in Davenport, Iowa, and at St. Luke’s in Oviedo, Fla. (SELC District). Having retired from the parish in 2025, I am willing to serve the larger church as a regional vice-president. Throughout my ministry, a quote from Luther has guided my approach to service in the kingdom: “Human nature is like a drunken peasant; as soon as you lift him into the saddle on one side, over he topples on the other.” I have sought to recognize when I have fallen off the horse, to confess and be lifted into the saddle again. I would seek to offer the same balanced perspective on the work of the Synod if elected.

I have been blessed to live and serve the majority of my ministry in the East-Southeast Region. I grew up in the New Jersey District, completed my vicarage in the New England District, and have served as a pastor in the Atlantic, SELC (Eastern Circuit— NJ), Southeastern, and Florida-Georgia districts. This has been a tremendous blessing, as I have come to understand the unique challenges and opportunities that are afforded to the churches of our Synod in this region. My journey in the East-Southeast covers a massive stretch of the LCMS landscape, giving me a front-row seat to how ministry shifts from the Northeast to the Southeast.

Navigating this diversity has required a unique set of skills—which I possess—and a deep heart for the variety of people.
